Without our community’s involvement, our goals of conservation, restoration, and reconnection would be impossible to reach! We seek to include all members of the communities that rely on our waterways for their beauty, cleansing power, and their ecosystem services. By welcoming people of diverse origins, backgrounds, and knowledge, we hope that together, we can reach our goals of a better habitat for all!

At the Washington Council of Trout Unlimited, we recognize our strength comes not only from our members, but the community that live throughout the watersheds from which we fish. By reaching out to non-fishing people who also appreciate the beauty and resources that our creeks, rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water provide, we can ensure that everyone continues to have access to clean water to visit. In addition to on-the-water recreation and peaceful connections with nature, reducing human impact on waterways benefits everyone who enjoys locally grown produce, beer, and wine.

Rivers and streams that are allowed to behave naturally tend to “behave” better, too! Through our BAT program, culverts that are too small to withstand the pressure of stormwater can be replaced, reducing the likelihood of damage to our roadways. The restoration of a river or stream’s natural curves and their floodplains means less flooding and less property damage. By involving our communities in these efforts, we can help repair restricted rivers and provide safer, more natural solutions that allow wildlife and fish to thrive while maximizing the ways people can connect with the habitats they share.

At the Washington Council of Trout Unlimited, we like to involve our communities by offering opportunities to everyone to join us in restoration projects, fly fishing clinics, and other events meant to help everyone appreciate our amazing native fish! Through our Veteran’s Program, our Youth Fly Fishing Academy, Women’s Initiative, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, we hope to bring the joy and peace of getting out on the river to everyone, as well as encourage all to take on a role as a citizen scientist or an environmental steward in their local watershed.
